Maintenance and service engineering trainee in the word

In conversation with trainee Gregor Welie, 4th year MBO Techniekcollege - Maintenance maintenance and service engineering.

Since February this year, HAAN Industrial Group has gained a number of talented, graduating MBO interns. One of these is 20-year-old Gregor from Maastricht. He is working on his final internship of the MBO course Maintenance maintenance and service engineering at the Techniekcollege in Maastricht.

Why HAAN...

"As an intern at HAAN, you get the opportunity to work all-round from day one. This means that what you learn at school can be experienced immediately in practice. But you will learn even more. Both in the workshop and at HAAN customers' premises, you work on a variety of projects. It is never monotonous and you can get a taste of all aspects of maintenance engineering," says Gregor.

What does a day's internship look like at HAAN?

"A day in advance I know which project I will be working on the next day. Often my morning starts at the workshop in Meerssen, where I prepare the day together with my colleague. Outside, we then visit different customers, which makes for nice variety. You get to places you normally never go. From a technical school where machines are maintained, to production companies in the industrial sector for technical service support. "I have even been to the mortuary of a university hospital where HAAN has machines. At the end of the day, we report back to the workshop and end the day".

Learnt young is...

The technical talent is not foreign to Gregor. As a little boy, he could regularly be found with his grandfather who is very handy and does a lot of DIY at home. "I often helped him with different kinds of chores in and around the house. There is nothing me Grandpa can't do". So the decision to pursue a technical education was quickly made.

Healthy ambition

Gregor has always been interested in other cultures. He is therefore definitely open to going abroad for projects. "Communicating and trading with foreign companies myself seems like great work". His goal is to one day get into a role where he has a lot of responsibility. A tip from Gregor for future interns: "Try to be as all-round as possible and be open to learning new things".
